Sunday 3rd August 2014
Hi, looking for some help with upgrading the disc in my 2007 Audi A6 Avant. The car still has the original Sat Nav disc from 2007 and it's becoming more and more useless so time to get the 2014 version.
Looking at audisatnav.co.uk it's much cheaper than I'd imagined (£20) and my model and year is listed BUT, it says THIS NAVIGATION DVD IS ONLY SUITABLE FOR MMI 2G DVD NAVIGATION SYSTEMS IN THE ABOVE MODELS
NOT FOR THE MMI BASIC PLUS(CD),MMI 3G(HDD) OR RNS-E SYSTEMS
My question is, how I find out which disc I currently have? I've taken it out of the DVD and it simply says MMI 4E0 060 884 AS but I have no idea if it's MMI 2G (which means i'm quids in) or of the other variety which means another £80.
Answers on a postcard and thanks in advance for your help.

Jan 29, 2016  In the sat nav link I gave above someone posted that their Audi dealer said that the activation charge would be £150 on an unused card obtained elsewhere. You can get them off eBay for under £100 - supposedly unused. But it would be a bit of a risk. I'm waiting for someone to try it out. Jun 15, 2015 Make sure that you have in you car Audi Multi Media Interface 2G (MMI 2G). Check details in article Audi navigation systems – MMI RNS BNS RMC differences. Audi MMI 2G maps update. Open your cars trunk and locate navigation DVD drive. It can be under the trunk floor or on the side, hidden behind trunk trim.

Put the part number into Google.
Secondly I'd be very surprised if £20 gets you anything worth having. If it seems to good to be true...

It is too good to be true. It's an unauthorised, unlicensed copy (at best) hiding behind a 'backup' argument. To be anywhere near legal you still need the original real disc.Cheap sat navs

£20 will be non genuine copy. You might as well download your own copy rather than pay someone £20 for something they got for free in the first place.

Okay you have a proper screen right? so not MMI Basic (CD Rom), RNSE was not fitted to your car, 3G HDD uses a hard drive not a DVD, you should be okay I reckon you have 2G.

I took a punt and ordered the 2014 DVD (UK) for the RNS-E system.
It took absolutely ages to load (certainly longer than 1 minute from switch on vs <5 secs for the 'official' DVD). I'm not sure why - it's just data but my system didn't like it at all.
I junked it and wouldn't buy another one to be honest...

RNS-E are notoriously fussy about (dual layer) media, plus the lasers go weak over time and make it appear worse. Initial switch on with new media inserted may take a while if it needs to firmware update, but after that should be the same as an OEM disc - if it's not then the laser is struggling to read it for either of the reasons mentioned.
The MMI uses a single layer DVD and assuming the media is decent condition should be read every time without issue.

I'm in the same position. I have a 2007 le mans and it has the colour sat nav screen. Does this mean mine is the MMI?
